Meet the Owners

Gateway Health Services (GHS) is a PT owned and operated comprehensive therapy organization. GHS was founded by Brian and LisaGallagher, both Physical Therapists. Brian and Lisa believed very strongly that the quality of care received by the patient and their families, was the most important aspect of their professions. They wanted this message to be clear to the organization’s long time top executives, Lauren Carbo, CEO and Lou Powers, President, with the anticipation that they would take ownership of the business. It was his intent that he turn the company over to executives who had been working along side him for so many years.

Gateway’s owners, Lauren and Lou, are dedicated to carry out the start up mission of providing high quality care and service to all of their valued patients. Their goal to provide high quality care and services to everyone that walks through our doors has helped to build the reputation that our community has come to know us by.

Meet Lauren Carbo, CEO:

Lauren received a Masters Degree in Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania and has several years of clinical experience doing individual, family and group therapy with all ages.  With her clinical background established she moved into management as the Program Director for an inpatient and outpatient mental health program in Western Maryland.  Lauren then managed the start up of a 90-bed assisted living facility and functioned as the Executive Director for 5 years.

The combination of clinical administrative skills that Lauren brings results in a strong administrative program for Gateway.  Lauren sets the tone for employee establishment through a strong hiring, orientation and training program which results in a team oriented environment.  She is a hands-on Owner and believes that good customer service results in sound business relationships.  With experience to balance finance and clinical quality, Lauren’s vision and influence has driven Gateway towards program success and continued expansion.

Meet Lou Powers, President:

After serving in the U.S. Army for several years, Lou graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Maryland in 1995.  Furthering his postgraduate education at the University of Maryland, Lou received his Master’s of Physical Therapy Degree in 1997.  Since beginning his career in the Maryland region, Lou has worked in a variety of physical therapy settings.  These include inpatient acute care rehabilitation, skilled nursing facilities and geriatric medicine, home health services, sports medicine, outpatient orthopedics, pediatrics, and various hospital based rehabilitation settings. 

As Owner, Lou is a strong believer in using a variety of hands on techniques with patient specific exercise programs to improve the overall function and independence of his clients.  His experience and outgoing personality have contributed to Gateway’s success as one of Maryland’s leaders in comprehensive therapy.  His compassion and concern for his patients are evident in every interaction. 

Lauren and Lou believe that the future and security of their organization lie in the hands of their employees.Gateway is an always-expanding company and this expansion would not be possible without a focus on teamwork and accountability. It is Gateway's goal to continue to work within these core values for the agencies we service, and for all the therapists that are part of our team.
